The Best

This story is from around Thanksgiving this year. We traveled to North Carolina to visit Anita's family. On the way there, we stopped to eat lunch and first thing, Conner and I went to the bathroom. He went into one stall, and I went into the one beside him.

Both of us are standing there peeing when out of nowhere he says, "Daddy. I love you."
"I love you too Conner" I said, somewhat awkwardly, as this seems far from the place to be passing endearments.
Conner replied, "Dad. You're the best."
I couldn't help myself and said, "No, you're the best."
He hesitated only a second and said, "You're right. I am the best."

It was quite possibly one of the funniest exchanges I have ever had with another person , and it was all with my four year old. It's amazing how much they take you off guard sometimes. I about died laughing because it was so unexpected and so freaking clever. Ahhh, this boy. I tell ya.
